rector-bot-alert

rector-bot-alert is a self-hosted Discord alert broadcast bot. You post messages in one or more source channels, and the bot relays them — as rich embeds or plain text, with or without a role ping — into a list of destination channels across every server it is in. It is sold as a one-time purchase: a compiled Linux binary, a license bound to your own Discord application, and a Postgres database you run yourself. Your VPS, your data, your bot.

What it does

  • Broadcast groups — organize relays into named groups (bc0, bc1, bc2, …). Each group has source channels and destination channels.
  • Four relay modes per group, set with setsource:
    • ep — embed plus role ping
    • enp — embed, no ping
    • np — plain text plus role ping
    • nnp — plain text, no ping
  • Destination subscriptions — any channel in any server the bot is in can be added as a destination, each with its own ping role (@everyone by default).
  • Subscriber expiry notices — set a subscription end date with setexpired; the bot automatically warns you before expiry and notifies you after, checking every 8 hours.
  • Auto-react — configure rules that react to messages matching keywords in destination channels, with per-channel blocking.
  • Keyword embed colors — color relayed embeds by keyword; unmatched messages use your default embed color.
  • Feature toggles — turn individual bot behaviors on and off at runtime.
  • Signal routes — dedicated point-to-point channel routes plus a signal log channel.
  • Full white-labeling — change the bot's username, avatar, footer text, footer icon, website link, embed color, and embed button (text, link, emoji) so it appears entirely under your own brand.
  • ~35 prefix commands — a complete command surface for setup, configuration, and operations (see Configuration).

What you host

The bot runs on your own VPS with its own Postgres database. No one else can see your configuration, your audiences, or your message traffic, and nothing about the bot depends on any hosted service besides Discord itself and your own machine.

Requirements

  • Ubuntu 22.04+ or Debian 12+ (x86_64)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Docker (used to run Postgres)
  • A Discord account that can create applications

What's in the bundle

FilePurpose
rector-bot-alertThe compiled program (single Linux binary)
README-START-HERE.mdTen-line quickstart
docs/These guides, offline copies
docker-compose.ymlPostgres 16, ready to run
config.env.exampleTemplate for .env (DATABASE_URL, DISCORD_TOKEN)
alertbot.servicesystemd unit for running the bot as a service
alembic.ini, alembic/Database migration scripts (used automatically on boot — leave them in place)

What's fixed

  • The relay modes and their semantics.
  • The command set (what each command does).
  • The license binding: one license runs one bot instance under one Discord application.

Features change only through our releases — you update by downloading a new release and replacing the binary.

Next steps

  1. Create your Discord application
  2. Install the bot on your VPS
  3. Activate your license
  4. Configure the bot
